Arsenal Coach Mikel Arteta has challenged the club’s record signing Nicolas Pepe to show the effort and willingness to fulfill his top potential, MySportDab reports.
Pepe made headlines last season while playing for Ligue 1 club Lille and scored 35 league goals for the club in two seasons as he showed himself as a potential star.
Despite links with various top clubs, Arsenal were able to sign the Ivory Coast international in July, making him the most expensive signing in their history for a shocking £72 million.
However, after 16 Premier League matches, Pepe has only provided three assists and scored two goals, with his general performances falling in front of goal.
New Arsenal coach Arteta is known to have had a big impact on the improvements of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling at Manchester City, and he is confident Pepe can find a similar level.
“I feel it was a huge change to come back from France to right here,” Arteta said ahead of Sunday’s Match.
“As known, he discovered a staff that, within the second he wasn’t at his best, the atmosphere for him to settle was not easy, so it is not only about him.
“We are here to assist him. If he is ready to learn, to work more, I guarantee you he has the potential to be prime.
“He confirmed this in some matches such as the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on December 26, how good he could be, however he needs to be more consistent.”
