Portuguese Giant Benfica have agreed to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl for £17m (€20m), MySportDab reports.
Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal were said to be interested in the Germany international.
However, the midfielder has agreed to join benfica after a two years agreement between both clubs.
MySportDab understands The 24-year-old made 171 appearances for the German club, won the German Cup in 2016-17 and the German Super Cup at the start of this season.
Borrusia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc announced in a statement:
“Julian came to us with this wish and we agreed to give him what he wanted, and also because of his service to the club,”
“We wish Weigl all the best for the future.”
The 24-year-old wrote as he bid farewell: “I want to thank my team-mates, BVB staffs and all fans of this fantastic club for a great time and I will always have Borussia Dortmund in my heart.”
Dortmund confirmed the deal is subject to a successful medical and Weigl is expected to sign the contract in the coming days.
Benfica lead the Portuguese league table with 39points after 14 matches, four points ahead of 2nd placed Porto and play next against Vitoria Guimaraes on Saturday.
