Edinson Cavani’s agent has revealed that his brother only wanted to join Atletico Madrid in January and rejected both Chelsea and Manchester United, MySportDab reports.
According to ESPN, Atletico were not ready to pay PSG’s demands of an £17million transfer fee for the Uruguay star.
Cavani is out of contract at PSG in the summer so will be available for free to join any club if he does not sign a new contract in France.
But while a host of Premier League clubs had no problem with the transfer fee, the 32-year-old forward had no desire to join any them during the January transfer window.
Chelsea and Manchester United were both linked with Cavani during the January window.
Chelsea failed in their search to sign a second choice player for Striker Tammy Abraham, while United signed Odion Ighalo on deadline day.
Cavani was linked to both clubs, while Chelsea offered PSG the chance to loan the player to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues were willing to pay Cavani’s £360,000-a-week wages and a £5m loan fee, but a deal failed to materialise.
MySportDab understands that Cavani was unwilling to take a pay-cut, which is likely why moves to Chelsea and United failed to happen and also why his dream move to Atletico failed.
But his brother and agent Walter Guglielmone has revealed that his client was not motivated by money in his desire to leave PSG.
“Cavani was ready to receive less at with PSG,” said Cavani’s brother.
“Atletico were unable to cover the total economic cost of the transfer and PSG refused to lower the amount they were demanding.
“Atletico failed to close the agreement.
“If it were based on money, he would have joined Manchester or Chelsea.”
Cavani ultimately ended up staying in Ligue 1 with PSG, where he’s currently the club’s all-time top scorer.
Chelsea will now have to finish the season with Tammy Abraham as their main striker while United will be without top goal scorer Marcus Rashford until March.
