Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the opener simply after half time – his second goal in as several league matches – once he drilled the ball low into rock bottom corner.
Reds’ skipper Jordan Henderson created it 2-0 on the hour mark with a peaceful end after being set up by Roberto Firmino.
Henderson then played in Mohamed salah for Liverpool’s third and therefore the Egypt forward added a fourth from close range in the second.
The scoreline was harsh on the guests, who matched Liverpool for much of the first hour with Danny Ings going close in the first half and Shane Long conjointly denied by Liverpool keeper Alisson.
The triumph extends Liverpool’s unbeaten run within the league to forty two games and they now sit twenty two points clear at the top of the table with second-placed Manchester city not playing till Sunday.
It was Southampton’s 1st away defeat in 5 games and they fall to eleventh place.
