Chelsea winger Willian has revealed that he intends to finish the Premier League season at the club despite his contract situation, MySportDab reports.
Willian will become a free agent at the end of the current season with negotiations over a new contract with Chelsea failing to progress.
And now the Brazilian is among thousands of players who could be out of contract before the final games of the season are played after the coronavirus epidemic stopped all sporting events around the world.
The Premier League is likely to restart on April 4 at the earliest, which means matches are likely to continue through the summer and beyond the contract expiry date of June 30.
However, MySportDab understands that clubs will try to offer short-term extensions to cover this particular scenario.
But Willian is adamant he will remain a Chelsea player until the end of the league season, forgetting about any contract.
“My contract I think ends, maybe in July,” Willian said while Speaking to Esporte Interativo on a live Facebook chat.
“And if I have to play games on those dates, in the coming months, I would have no problem with that to end the league in a way which would be completely loyal to the club, as they were always loyal with me. Regardless of any contract.
“But it’s clear there is no certainty, we don’t know what might happen. But surely, as always, I will always be willing to my club regardless of my contract difficulty.”
Willian New Contract?
Willian now looks certain to leave after the end of the current season after failing to agree terms over a new contract at Chelsea.
The Stamford Bridge club have offered the 31-year-old a two-year extension, having previously refused to over more than a 12-month additions for players over 30.
But Willian has still rejected the offer because the Brazil international wants a pay rise and a three-year contract.
The winger and his family want to stay in London so he now looks most likely to join Tottenham and reunite with Jose Mourinho or maybe Juventus.
Chelsea Players Giroud, Pedro and Willy Caballero are also out of contract at the end of the campaign.
