The Dutch Eredivisie 2019-20 Season is now likely to be  cancelled after concerns football won’t resume until after four months, MySportDab reports.

Earlier, The Netherlands Prime Minister announced that football matches cannot be played for another four months.

The football season was suspended recently due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis and it remains unknown when players can return to action.

However on Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark hinted that the Eredivisie season is surely over after making it clear that organised events remain banned until September as they continue to stop the coronavirus spread.

Now, the Eredivisie have issued a statement after Rutte’s comments, revealing they intend to cancel the season but will discuss with UEFA on the topic.

‘That all events remain prohibited until 1 September makes things very clear. Until then, no football matches can be played, even without fans,’ The league said in a statement.

‘Due to this, the board of professional football does not plan to continue the league 19/20 season.

‘After the government’s decision today, the Dutch league will speak with UEFA. After which a final decision is made. This Friday, all clubs and other parties will meet to discuss the terms.’

When the Eredivisie season is cancelled, it would join the Belgian league who already declared the season over.
