Former Barcelona player Ronaldinho has been released from prison in Paraguay after 32 days over fake passports, MySportDab reports.
The 40-year-old is now on house arrest at a hotel in Paraguay capital of Asuncion after paying a £1.3million bond.
Both Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto were charged for trying to enter the country with fake passports and had faced six months jail time.
But judge Gustavo Amarilla has allowed them to stay at a hotel for the mean time, with the case still in court and the player’s lawyers trying to appeal the decision to jail him.
MySportDab understands his lawyers have argued that Ronaldinho should be freed from facing prison due to his profile status as a former footballer.
Ronaldinho was arrested alongside Roberto on March 6, but still denied using a forged passport, with the former World Cup winner saying he didn’t know.
His own lawyer Adolfo Marin said the ex football had been ‘stupid’ and criticised the court for not seeing his mistake.
‘The courts are refusing to see that Ronaldinho didn’t know he was committing a crime, because he didn’t know he had been given false documents.’
Despite his fall over the years, Ronaldinho was seen playing a part in the game of foot volleyball with his fellow inmates in prison.
He also made use of his skills on the pitch by playing a football competition and helped his side to win.
He only turned 40 recently and also had to spend his birthday in prison, but the prisoners ensured it was a great birthday as they baked him a cake and even prepared him a barbecue.
Ronaldo has struggled to stay away from news as his career began to fall down and most times for the wrong reasons.
