The Blues squad had agreed to take a 10 per cent wage cut after the club first offered a 30 per cent reduction.

‘The main objective was to find a good agreement which ensure staff jobs are safe, fans are compensated and also donations,’ read the statement.

MySportDab understands Chelsea’s players were happy to take the wage cut but not the 30% first offered.

A wage cut deal with the players would have ensured Chelsea saves at least £8m in wages.

Chelsea Captain Cesar Azpilicueta led the talks between Chelsea’s squad and the Stamford Bridge top staffs and asked all his team-mates to agree on a 10 per cent reduction.

Chelsea have helped in every way possible since the coronavirus started and Club owner Roman Abramovich even ensured Millennium Hotel on Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge ground was available for all NHS Staffs.
