Manchester United are ready to sign Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt if the Dutch man continues to struggle in Italy, MySportDab reports.
De Ligt was one of the hottest young talents in European football but he rejected a number of clubs to join Juventus for £67.5million after helping Ajax reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
However, the 20-year has failed to impress during a difficult first campaign in Serie A, and was not even a first team player until Merih Demiral was injured in January.
MySportDab understands Manchester United are now monitoring the situation in case Juventus decide to cut lose some players.
The Red Devils are aware that the player’s agent Mino Raiola has a reputation for switching clubs for his clients very fast and De Ligt could become available next summer or even this summer.
However, United still have plenty of options in central defence after spending £80m to sign Harry Maguire last summer, including Victor Lindelof, Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones.
But with Chris Smalling likely to be sold after a season on loan at Roma, and Jones will also likely leave Old Trafford in the summer, United could have to sign for another centre-back in the next 12 months.
They are well aware of De Ligt’s abilities having scouted him as he rose through the ranks at Ajax before making his developing massively in 2016.
