Arsenal Prepare Bid For £22m Borussia Dortmund Defender Manuel Akanji

Arsenal are preparing to submit a bid for Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji this summer transfer window, MySportDab reports.

The Switzerland international was the topic of talks between the two clubs in 2019.

MySportDab understands that Dortmund then decide ld not the sell Akanji as Paris Saint-Germain offered over £28million to sign Abdou Diallo.

Diallo who joined from Mainz 12 months earlier, decided to join PSG and Borussia Dortmund decided against selling Akanji.

Coach Lucien Favre has used Akanji frequently this season and he’s played 24 of their 26 Bundesliga games.

He played in the 4-0 win over rivals Schalke in the Revierderby over the weekend when German football returned.

Manuel Akanji has also started all of Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League matches in the group stage but he was not played in the last-16 tie against PSG.

Yet Arsenal also held talks with Dortmund in January about a possible swoop for Akanji this summer.

Arsenal Coach Mikel Arteta is the man in charge of the club’s recruitment now and is working on signing new players.

Dortmund would want around £22m and £27m for Akanji, who joined the Bundesliga club from Basel in the summer of 2018.

He has gone on to make 76 appearances at Dortmund but Coach Lucian Favre has plans to rebuild his defence.
