Chelsea have announced the signing of Striker Timo Werner in a £53million deal from RB Leipzig, MySportDab reports.

Coach Frank Lampard was desperate to improve his attacking options and has now signed one of the best strikers in Europe.

Timo Werner has now signed a five-year deal worth £175,000-a-week.

Chelsea announced via Twitter:

Chelsea Transfer Expert Marina Granovskaia said: ‘We are very happy that Timo Werner has decided to join Chelsea.

‘He is a top player who has experience all over Europe and it’s no surprise, he has that mix of being young and yet established and brilliant.

‘We can’t wait for Timo to join us here, but until then we wish him and RB Leipzig all the best.’

Werner will join Chelsea on July 1 having decided not to complete RB Leipzig’s Champions League season when the club competition resumes in August.

In a Goodbye message to RB Leipzig fans on Instagram, Werner wrote:

‘Dear RB Leipzig family, it’s now time to say goodbye, after four wonderful years, it is time to let you know that I have decided to leave for England next season.

‘I take this next step in my life with great desire but with a heavy heart.

‘I still remember when I joined Leipzig in 2016 when I was just 20. My first match against Hoffenheim, my first home match against Borussia Dortmund, and my first goal.

‘Now, four years later, I can look back on so many wonderful days, success and encounters that will always be with me.

‘So I would like to say THANK YOU. THANKS to my team-mates, the fans, the employees, to everyone I’ve met here so far and to the wonderful city of Leipzig, where I have always felt at home from day one.’
