Timo Werner’s £53m RB Leipzig contract release clause doesn’t expire until July, MySportDab reports.
But the release clause still won’t stop Werner’s expected transfer to Chelsea at the end of the season.
Many fans believed that Werner’s release clause was due to expire on June 15 but, According to German Newspaper Bild, it will expire on July 15.
This gives Chelsea more time to sign the prolific Germany striker ahead of their rivals like Manchester United and Liverpool.
However, Werner has given Chelsea his word that he will join this summer.
Timo Werner who has scored 31 goals across all competitions for RB Leipzig this season.
MySportDab understands that Werner will sign a five-year contract at Chelsea and earn around £170,000-per-week in wages, which makes him the club’s highest paid player.
According to reports in Germany, Werner’s release clause will drop to £44m this summer if RB Leipzig fail to win the Bundesliga.
Over the weekend, RB Leipzig Sporting director Oliver Mintzlaff said the deal was not yet complete but Chelsea are expected to finish everything once the window opens.
Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League and on track to qualify for the Champions League next season.
The Blues resume Premier League action against Aston Villa on June 21th.
Timo Werner is expected to play again on Friday night as RB Leipzig travel to face Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga.
