Manchester United Legend Rio Ferdinand has insisted that the club must strengthen the squad to challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title next season, MySportDab reports.
United’s 5-2 thrashing of Bournemouth in the Premier League showed fans how well manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has developed the squad at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are now 16 matches unbeaten across all competitions as they continue to battle for a top-four place.
United are still in the running to win the the FA Cup or Europa League.
Despite being positive in recent weeks, the main reality for fans is that United are 34 points behind Champions Liverpool, with five matches left.
And, Rio Ferdinand believes that United must strengthen the squad to challenge for the title next season.
‘I think they need three starters at least,’ Ferdinand told BT Sport.
‘I’m talking a centre back, with speed. We have Harry Maguire there who cost alot. I think he’s not got the pace, he’s got other qualities. But you need a new defender with pace to be able to work with him.
‘Another midfielder who can dominate physically is good and can play more defensive positions. Yes, Scott McTominay has been a fantastic player but the experience is needed.
‘And also in forward areas another player should come in and really rival that attacking front three and score goals.’

Ndidi looks like a perfect footballer to add another defensive midfield quality to United’s squad.
However, The Nigerian has performed very well at Leicester City and has done well to replace N’Golo Kante sold to Chelsea four years ago.

Jadon Sancho
All Manchester United fans at least those I know, want the club to sign Jadon Sancho this summer.
The Borussia Dortmund star has been heavily linked with a summer transfer to Manchester United.
The 20-year-old surely become a first team player in Solskjaer’s XI and it would be a real statement of intent to other Premier League clubs.
