Marseille’s opening match of the new French Ligue 1 season has been postponed after the club announced three new coronavirus cases, MySportDab reports.
Marseille were set to kick start the new season against Saint-Etienne at their Stade Velodrome stadium.
But after more tests were performed, it came back with three positive results.
Former Aston Villa player Amavi tested positive for coronavirus last week.
According to La Provence, Former Crystal Palace Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, Valentin Rongier and Maxime Lopez are the players that tested positive.
A source said: ‘Everybody is fine, they will be asymptomatic apparently.’
Both Marseille and Saint-Etienne immediately decided to postpone the game on Tuesday morning.
The French League rules state that if a team has more than three players or staffs test positive then a match can be postponed.
The League ‘Covid Commission’ were set for a meeting on Tuesday after talks about postponing the match on Monday.
Last week, Marseille were forced to cancel a friendly match against German side Stuttgart.
The new French season is preparing to restart again after the 2019-20 season was not completed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Protocols by the French Government stated that professional sports could not return until September but they had given the green light for the League to return this weekend.
