Manchester United are expected to sign Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek in a £40million deal, MySportDab reports.

MySportDab understands that Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played a key role in convincing Van De Beek to join the Old Trafford club.

The Red Devils are yet to make any signing so far this summer having focused most of their efforts signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

But United have monitored Van de Beek for a long time and are now closing in on signing the 23-year-old.

The Netherlands International was left out of the Ajax squad for the friendly match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Ajax Coach Erik ten Hag confirmed: “There are some developments that made us to keep him out of the squad.

“Let’s see what happens. We’ll make an announcement when there’s enough clarity.”

Now, United could wrap up the deal quickly if neither Barca or Real Madrid submit a bid for the player in the coming days.

According to MySportDab Sources, Van de Beek has told Ajax that he wants to leave and won’t play for them again.

Coach Solskjaer has now been given the permission to talk with the player over the next 48 hours.

Solskjaer is said to have told the midfielder that he can help United close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City and challenge for the Premier League.

Manchester United finished third in the Premier League last season and secured Champions League qualification but were 33points behind Liverpool.

However, if Barca or Real Madrid do not submit a late bid, Van de Beek will definitely become a Manchester United player.

New Barcelona Coach Ronald Koeman is more interested in Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum, who will out of contract at Anfield next summer.

But Barca are currently distracted by the transfer saga around captain Lionel Messi who wants to leave the Nou Camp.

Van de Beek

Van De Beek scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists in 37 matches for Ajax last season.

The season before, he scored 17 goals and gave 13 assists in 57 matches and helped Ajax reach the Champions League semi-finals.
