Bayern Munich have now confirmed an agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of midfielder Thiago Alcantara in a £27m deal, MySportDab reports.
Liverpool have agreed to pay Bayern Munich’s asking price for Thiago and a transfer will be completed.
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told German Newspaper Bild: “I can confirm that we have an agreement with Liverpool.
“It was Thiago’s wish at the end of his football career to try something new.”
Liverpool still decided to pay the £27m fee despite the fact Thiago had only nine months left on his Bayern Munich contract.
Liverpool hope to retain their English Premier League title this season and Thiago’s experience can go a long way.
Thiago was part of Bayern Munich treble-winning team which also won the Champions League last season.
The Spanish midfielder has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool and will wear the No 6 jersey.
MySportDab can confirm that Bayern Munich included a clause in the deal for Thiago.
The clause states that if Liverpool win the Premier League or Champions League before 2024, the Reds must pay Bayern Munich another £5m.
Bayern Munich Coach Hansi Flick added: ‘Thiago is a fantastic player who enjoyed his seven successful years here with us.
‘He’s a wonderful player and an outstanding footballer. It was emotional for us today when he said goodbye.’
Thiago had won seven German Bundesliga titles in a row.
He played 40 matches across all competitions in the 2019-20 season, scored three goals and provided two assists.
