Manchester City have announced the signing of defender Ruben Dias in a £64.3m deal from Benfica, MySportDab reports.

The 23-year-old is set to make his debut next week after undergoing a medical before signing a six-year contract.

Man City defender Nicolas Otamendi has joined Benfica as part of the transfer deal for £13.7m.

Ruben Dias is a very stubborn centre half, and is the right man Pep Guardiola hopes will improve his defence.

‘I love to win, a player for the fans, the team, a player that loves the family spirit which I am feeling since I got here,’ Dias said.

‘I am a very aggressive footballer and I love what I do in my life. I love football and without saying much, because you will see it when I start playing.

‘For me, the most important thing is to win and that is the main thing.

‘I am expecting everything the Premier League has to offer and be the reason why I love football. To express that feeling when on the field.

‘That’s the feeling, words can’t describe those feelings. For me, the Premier League means everything and to to play in the Premier League at a big club like City, is amazing.’

Last year, Manchester City failed to sign a replacement for Vincent Kompany.

However, City sporting director Txiki Begiristain said that the club are expecting Dias to take up a leadership role.

‘He is a top player we have admired for a long time and we are impressed with his progress at Benfica,’ Begiristain said.

‘He has grown into a top quality, real leader and as a defender, he’s got all the attributes we need.’
