Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri has now tested positive for Covid-19 just days after new signing Thiago Alcantara also tested positive, MySportDab reports.
Shaqiri is now the third Liverpool first-team player to test positive for Covid-19 in one week.
Last week, the Premier League champions confirmed that both Sadio Mane and Thiago tested positive for Covid-19.
The three players now have to self-isolate after the positive result.
The positive tests from the squad has raised concerns of the virus spreading more, with some key Liverpool squad members reporting for international duty throughout the world.
Juventus stopped its players from playing for their countries on international duty after two non-playing staffs tested positive for the virus.
Shaqiri’s positive test was today confirmed by the Swiss FA and the winger self-isolate for the next 10 days.
In a statement on Monday, The Premier League confirmed that nine new Positive CoronaVirus cases in the latest round of tests.
A Premier League statement said: ‘The Premier League can officially confirm that between Monday 28 September and Sunday 4th October, 1,587 players and club staffs were tested for Coronavirus.
‘There were nine new positive results. The players or club staffs who tested positive will now self-isolate for the next 10 days.
‘The Premier League is sharing this information for the purposes of integrity and transparency.
‘No specific information about the clubs or individuals will be shared by the league and results will be announced after every round of testing.’
Sadio Mane, Thiago, and Shaqiri all missed Liverpool’s 7-2 thrashing against Aston Villa on Sunday.
