Liverpool Coach Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Thiago Alcantara will not play in the Premier League match against Manchester City, MySportDab reports.
The Spain international has been unavailable since his knee injury in the Merseyside derby against Everton in October.
Liverpool got some good news after the match that Thiago would not need surgery.
Some fans were hopeful that he would return to play against on Sunday.
But Thiago has not trained with the team training this week.
However, Jurgen Klopp confirmed in his Friday press conference that the midfielder is not fit.
Asked whether Thiago is fit to return, Klopp said: “No, not yet.
“Thiago is not ready to return.
“There was no need for surgery but it’s still an injury and with these kind of injuries you monitor the situation every day.
“There can be massive improvements from one day but in the end when a boy is fit enough, then he would train.
“The longer he remains out, the longer he would train before we play him again in the starting line-up.”
Joel Matip could now make his return from injury, but Klopp is not fully sure whether he would play alongside Joe Gomez.
If Matip is not fit enough for the match, Klopp has a decision to pick a new partner for Gomez at centre-back.
Both youngsters Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips have impressed with a strong performance against Atalanta in the Champions League this week.
