Arsenal Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has slammed African football hierarchy after the Gabon squad were held “hostage” at an airport, MySportDab reports.
Aubameyang and his Gabon teammates was held in Gambia’s Banjul International Airport for six hours.
The Gambian authorities keept hold of their passports.
MySportDab understands that the Gabon players were at the Airport from 11pm, before being allowed to leave at 6am in the morning.
Aubameyang slammed the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on social media as the players waited to just leave the airport.
“What a shocking night at the airport,” Aubameyang wrote.
“It’s like we’re back in the 90’s.
“Just can’t understand why Gambia keep our passports for Hours and keep us at the Airport, are we hostage or what ?
“Can close your eyes ? Want to watch the Next Episode of this Film.”
Gabon play against Gambia on Monday, and Aubameyang suggested that the Airport dey won’t stop them from winning.
He added: “It won’t demotivate us but people need to know and especially that @CAF_Online take full responsibilities.
“This is 2020 and we want Africa to grow more, this is not how we’re getting there.”
At 5.56am in the morning, Aubameyang posted an image of the Gabon team on their way to a hotel, and wrote a message: “Yes in the bus, see you later. Thanks for the motivation Gambia.”
The Arsenal forward will hope to rediscover his goal scoring form while on international duty, having failed to score since the first match of the season.
Aubameyang has been very frustrated in recent weeks, with Mikel Arteta playing him on the left-side of his attack.
