RB Leipzig have made a final decision about selling defender Dayot Upamecano in the January transfer window, MySportDab reports.
Upamecano is one of the most sought young players right now in Europe, with Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool all interested.
However, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea must now wait until the summer to sign Dayot Upamecano.
This comes as RB Leipzig have rejected the idea of selling the young talented defender in the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old is one of the best centre backs in the world after his consistent performances over the last few years.
Earlier in January, RB Leipzig’s CEO Oliver Mintzlaff gave clubs some hope they could sign the France international.
Oliver claimed that the Bundesliga club would sell their star players if the financial situation gets worse.
But, According to Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig won’t sell Dayot Upamecano in January but he’s likely to leave the club at the end of the current season.
Upamecano has played for RB Leipzig for almost five years now, after signing from RB Salzburg as a young 18-year-old defender for £9 million.
RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg are both owned by Red Bull and they are recognised as one of the best clubs in the world for developing players and selling them off.
RB Leipzig are open to signing new players, and they made that clear with the recent signing of Arsenal target Dominik Szoboszlai and Josko Gvardiol.
In January, RB Leipzig’s CEO was asked if the financial situation meant the club would sell their star players this summer.
He told Bild: “We are also in the Covid crisis, with almost 60 million euros loss in revenue over the last two years. We had to carefully weigh up our options.
“Despite this, We must continue to invest in young, talented players because they are the future of RB Leipzig. This is our club DNA.
“This summer we will bring in new players only if some current players leave the club at the end of the season.”
