Late goal from Ferland Mendy ensured Real Madrid grabbed a 1-0 win against 10 men Atalanta in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16, MySportDab reports.
First Half Report
They wasn’t much to talk about in the first half of the encounter between the two sides who couldn’t find the back of the net.
Atalanta started the game well until Remo Freuler was sent off in the 17th minute after a rash tackle which the referee had to send him out of the game.
Real Madrid couldn’t capitalize on the one man advantage they had as the game progressed with them creating few goal-scoring chances which failed to bring anything good.
The first half of the match ended with Atalanta 0-0 Real Madrid as both teams settled for a goalless scoreline draw.
Second Half Report
The second half was much better in the early stages as some good runs were made and a couple of opportunities coming and going to waste.
Real Madrid continued pushing for that much need goal but unfortunately, they couldn’t finish off when the chances kept coming as the game went on.
Atalanta couldn’t hold on to the end as Ferland Mendy scored to give his side a 1-0 lead in the 86th minute of the encounter.
The match ended with Atalanta 0-1 Real Madrid as Zidane’s side claimed the much needed win and a 1st advantage.
