Manchester United are now working on a £40m Bid for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane this summer, MySportDab reports.

United are expected to finish second in the Premier League at the end of the current season.

However, Their defence has not been good enough and they have conceded more goals than 17th-placed Brighton.

According to the Mirror, Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign the Frenchman to play alongside Harry Maguire in defence.

Varane has a year left on his contract at Real Madrid and United believe they can sign him for around £40m.

The 28-year-old has spent over 10 years with the Spanish giants, playing 359 matches across all competitions, and winning 18 trophies during that time.

He has won the La Liga, Champions League and the 2018 World Cup during his football career.

MySportDab understands that United are confident about Varane bringing in the pace, and winning experience to the team for next season.

The Red Devils have failed in their previous attempts to sign him, but could get their man this summer.

Raphael Varane has refused to sign a new Real Madrid contract and wants a new challenge.

United have been poor in defence since captain Harry Maguire got injured, and has now missed their last two matches.

The Red Devils have conceded six goals between those two matches without Harry Maguire in defence.

Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have failed to be consistent enough and Varane could solve that problem.

Manchester United play next in the Premier League against Fulham on Tuesday before facing Wolves on Sunday.
