Argentine Superstar Lionel Messi is now officially a free agent after his contract at Barcelona expired on June 30th, MySportDab reports.

You are surprised right? Yes one of football’s greatest ever players is now a free agent.

12 months ago Messi tried to leave Barcelona for the first time ever and now he is no longer at the club.

The Argentine contract expired at midnight yesterday and despite months of talks, he has failed to sign a contract extension.

Talks over a new contract are still ongoing, which means Messi could still stay at the Nou Camp.

But now if Messi won’t sign again for Barcelona, Where will he play football next season?

According to reports, Barcelona have a difficult financial situation with Messi’s new contract expected to cost the club already in debt extra millions.

Messi’s contract renewal is the main priority of new Barcelona president Joan Laporta and he is now negotiating it directly with Messi’s father.

To keep Messi, the club will have to reduce their wage bill by £172m to meet La Liga’s Financial Fair Play requirements.

“Messi is aware of the interest from other clubs, but has not negotiated anything with them, and still wants something from Barcelona.”

The 34-year-old remains linked with moves to Paris St-Germain and Manchester City.

At Manchester City, Messi could would be reunited with his former Coach at Barcelona Pep Guardiola.

He is currently in Brazil playing in the Copa America for Argentina and became their most-capped player when he played his 148th match against Bolivia on Tuesday.
