Eden Hazard made a dream move to Real Madrid from Chelsea almost three years ago but has endured a difficult time at the Santiago Bernabeu, savaged by constant injuries and poor form.
As a result of this, the Belgian is now frozen out of first-choice selection as Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti favours in-form Vinicius Junior, and also indicating that he would be happy for Eden Hazard to leave Madrid in the new year if he wants to, saying that “I have never forced a play to stay when they want to leave.”
Eden Hazard was tipped to do well in Madrid when he made the big-money move in 2019. He even inherited the iconic number 7 jersey previously worn by 4-time Balon Dor winner, Cristiano Ronaldo. But it has been a frustrating two seasons so far for the 30-year-old.
Although he was part of the squad that won the La Liga in his first term under Zinedine Zidane, he couldn’t play more than 16 games through injury, scoring only once.
In the next season, he managed only 14 matches as Madrid couldn’t get their hands on any trophy before Zidane left. The arrival of Carlo Ancelotti has seen him fall down the pecking order.
Hazard’s dire situation was further highlighted as he could only come on to replace Vinicius Junior in the final minutes in Madrid’s 2-1 win over Elche in La Liga on Saturday.
This lack of playing time may now cause him to think of finding a new club as he doesn’t look to be in Ancelotti’s plans but he must put into consideration his wage demands and the risk of his unceasing injuries.
