Chelsea make it into the next round of the Carabao Cup after playing 4-3 on penalties against Southampton, MySportDab reports.
First Half Report
The game started well for the Blues who had control from kickoff as the first half of the encounter showed so much quality coming from them both.
Southampton were good in making sure their defending was perfect as they push forward hoping to hit on a break which looked impossible.
It was Chelsea who continued making more of the opportunities as their shots on target was so much for their opponent who had to struggle escaping without conceding.
The goal finally came in the 44th minute of the game thanks to Kai Havertz who made sure his finishing was perfect as they made things 1-0 against their opponent.
That goal was the only difference as the first half ended with Chelsea taking a 1-0 advantage into the break against Southampton who were decent.
Second Half Report
A good start to live in the second half for Southampton who were okay despite being pressured so much by the home side who dominated things.
Che Adams made things level 1-1 in the 47th minute of the second half which saw the striker finishing off against Kepa Arrizabalaga to score the equalizer.
Chelsea had to continue the game pushing for the lead after conceding through an error which left their goalkeeper exposed before the goal was scored.
Nothing could happen as the game continued with more opportunities and shots on goal coming from the Blues who still couldn’t get the lead.
The referee ended things in the 90th minutes with Chelsea and Southampton heading for penalties after a 1-1 scoreline.
Penalty Report
Chelsea looked confidence as Kepa Arrizabalaga came to the rescue which an outstanding performance once again for the Blues.
Mason Mount missed his penalty as it ended with 4-3 against Southampton who lost after the end of the shootout.
