Newcastle United fans celebrated wildly in the evening in thousands outside their St James’ Park stadium after the £305m Saudi takeover, MySportDab reports.
Fans have always wanted the end of the Mike Ashley era for many years and the official confirmation on this exit arrived shortly after 5.15pm on Thursday.
When it was officially confirmed that the takeover backed by Saudi’s Public Investment Fund, had been approved by the Premier League, fans were dancing with joy.
Fans came together to be present outside the Milburn Stand as they waited for the media confirmation ahead of a new era.
Amanda Staveley, a 10 per cent Stake Holder in Newcastle United was welcomed by the fans at the stadium.
Her husband, Ghodoussi, was spotted hugging fans when the news got confirmed.
Newcastle Football Legend Alan Shearer wrote on social media.
He tweeted: ‘Yes. We can hope again.’
Newcastle defender Isaac Hayden said: ‘Exciting times ahead for Newcastle. Enjoy your cans fans’.
The Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust revealed that 96.7 per cent of its members wanted the Saudi consortium to take over.
The Saudi Arabia takeover means Newcastle now have the richest owners in worth football, with a worth of £320billion.
But not everyone was happy about the takeover.
The approval of the takeover lead to criticism of the Premier League by human-rights groups.
The Premier League will try to ensure that the PIF-led consortium and not the state are in charge of the club.
