Manchester United are reportedly prepared to offer Barcelona £47m in exchange for the services of midfielder, Frenkie De Jong.
As Barcelona attempt to raise funds to improve their squad as well as stay out of debt during the January transfer window, The Netherlands international has now linked with a move away from Camp Nou.
De Jong is also an interest of Manchester City, but Barca’s new head coach, Xavi Hernandez has clearly stated that De Jong is not for sale.
However, El Nacional reports that Manchester United are preparing to test Barcelona in their desire to keep De Jong.
The report further states that the Old Trafford outfit is now set to make an offer of €55m (£47m) for the services of the Dutchman.
Although the reports claim that the Camp Nou outfit are more than determined to keep hold of the 24-year-old, who they got for big money from Ajax.
Barca’s president, Joan Laporta will now need to consider offers that arrive as a result of Barca’s current financial crisis and this may mean Frenkie De Jong might end up leaving.
There is no doubt that De Jong has been pivotal for Barcelona in the 2021-22 season, making 17 appearances already in all competitions. He also has a goal and two assists to his credit in the process.
Manchester United new interim boss, Ralf Rangnick could allegedly be given as much as £100m to spend on new signings in January.
And it is reported that his main focus will be a young, fast Centre midfielder who can press well and Frenkie De Jong clearly fits this description.
