Ousmane Dembele is now more likely to leave Barcelona this summer as a free agent when his contract expires, MySportDab reports.
According to GOAL, Dembele’s contract extension talks with Barcelona has now officially collapsed.
Negotiations did not go as Barca expected and they failed to meet contract requests set by Dembele.
The two parties are a long way from a mutual agreement in terms of wage proposals.
However, Barcelona Coach Xavi remains hopeful that a deal can be agreed despite the current situation.
Dembele’s contract expires after this 2021-22 season.
If a contract is not signed, he can freely negotiate a pre-contract with another clubs from January 1.
Barcelona had hoped to reach an agreement with the French winger before that date.
However, talks this week have now crumbled when Dembele rejected a wage cut offered by the club.
Both his wages and a bonus for agent are points the key problems for the new contract.
Barca manager Xavi previously insisted that he wants Dembele to be part of his squad rebuild.
He said: “We are positive that he would renew, for me it is very important.”
However, the positivity of Dembele signing a new contract is looking further and further away. now
Barcelona tried to slash Dembele’s wages to help afford the signing of Ferran Torres from Manchester City.
Torres currently cannot be officially added to Barcelona’s La Liga squad due to the current financial crisis.
