Barcelona have now provided a new update regarding the situation of midfielder Frenkie De Jong, MySportDab reports.

Barca president has now admitted that they must clarify the situation with Frenkie De Jong as soon as possible.

Manchester United Coach Erik ten Hag made De Jong his top priority target this summer.

The Red Devils and Barcelona have already agreed a €55million deal plus further add ons weeks ago.

However, the deal has not progressed due to the wage deferral De Jong agreed to for Barcelona in 2020.

Now, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has finally spoken again about De Jong’s potential exit on Saturday.

He said: “Frenkie is a player we really like.

“There are some offers on the table for Frenkie but we have not accepted for now, because we want to know exactly what he wants. We need to clarify his situation soon.”

Barcelona have been struggling financially for some time now and that got worse due to Covid-19.

De Jong agreed to reduce his wages to help the club financially during the pandemic based on the agreement that he would earn that money back in the coming seasons.

So, if he leaves Barcelona now, De Jong would risk missing out on the money the club owe him.

Barca have kept on insisting that don’t want to sell and the player has refused to leave.

But, Manchester United remain confident they can convince De Jong to leave the Spanish club.

De Jong is currently on pre-season tour with Barcelona in the United States.

Meanwhile, Manchester United begin the new 2022-23 Premier League season on August 7 two weeks from now.

The Premier League transfer window will close on 1 September.
