Darren Moore began his playing career as a trainee with Torquay United during the early days of 1990.

His first game for Torquay was in 1992 against Birmingham City, and later that year, he turned professional, which was in November.

He established himself as a regular player the following season, making 100 appearances before he moved on to Doncaster Rovers for €62,500 transfer fee in 1995.

Darren Moore’s arrival to Doncaster Rovers was with so much then amid a rising issue with the club owner wanting to burn down certain parts of the Stadium.

He made 84 appearances for Doncaster, and in those times, he scored eight goals playing in two seasons.

Due to financial issues, Darren Moore made his next move which was signing for Bradford City for a transfer fee of €310,000 in 1997.

His first season was with so much injury limiting him to just 18 appearances which was an all-time low for Darren.

He followed up the next season to make 44 appearances which helped Bradford to a Premier League promotion during the 1998-99 season.

There was an issue with Darren signing a new contract which had him and his manager then in dispute that led to him leaving.

A move to Portsmouth for €500,000 soon happened in November 1999, when he spent two years with the club, making 59 appearances, as he completed another move to West Bromwich Albion for €750,000 in 2001.

He helped the Baggies to a Premier League promotion during the 2001-02 season, in which he was in the PFA player of the season.

Unfortunately, West Brom couldn’t survive as they got relegated immediately, but they immediately gained promotion in the 2003-04 season.

Darren Moore carried on playing for teams like Derby County, Barnsley, and Burton Albion before retiring in 2012, making a total of 595 appearances and scoring 31 goals.

He got the job permanently the following season, which they started well until a poor run of home games saw the club sacking its manager, who had them in 4th place.

His next club was Doncaster Rovers, who appointed him as their manager during the 2020 season, with so much, including the Covid-19 pandemic.

Another string of losing runs led to Darren Moore losing his job again, and he joined Sheffield Wednesday, where he is still their manager.
