Fans have now slammed Goalkeeper David De Gea for his goal leading error in Manchester United’s match against Aston Villa, MySportDab reports.
United’s perfect pre-season run under Erik ten Hag ended today after a poor performance in the end.
The Red Devils lost a 2-0 goal lead against Aston Villa and ended up playing a draw at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia.
United went into half-time with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and an own goal by Matty Cash.
However, everything completely changed in favour of Aston Villa in the second half.
Substitute Leon Bailey pulled one back to make it 2-1 in the 46th minute.
At the end of the match, Calum Chambers scored an equaliser to make it 2-2.
De Gea has now been blamed for the late goal error after hesitating in coming for the cross and allowing the goal.
However, some fans also believe the Spanish goalkeeper actually avoided the ball which allowed Chambers a free header to score.
The video has now gone viral on social media and fans are not happy with De Gea.
De Gea has been named United’s Player of the Year award four times during his time at the club.
However, his problem with crosses into the box dates has been there for many years with no solution.
Earlier on in the match, De Gea made another mistake after a corner came in from the right side and he completely missed the ball.
The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper has 12 months left on his Man United contract and the Red Devils are more likely to extend the deal.
But De Gea wants to avoid a repeat of last season’s poor season across all competitions.
“We can’t repeat that because it was a disaster,” De Gea told The Guardian.
“I hope we play much better next season. It was very embarrassing, painful, and unacceptable for us.”
