Live video shots circulated online show the fans on a rampage with racist chants against the Brazilian star yelling ”Vinicius Jr, you are a monkey” in Spanish.
Recall that the Chairman of Spanish Football Agents Pedro Bravo Association has sparked reactions when he blatantly attacked Vinicius jr for playing the monkey each time he scores a goal.
Pedro Bravo, when asked about his opinion about Vinicius Jr dancing goal celebration on a Spanish Television, said, ”Vinicius should stop playing the monkey and respect his teammates.”
Pedro Bravo’s comment sparked widespread criticism from renowned football stars all over the globe, with the likes of Neymar and Brazil all-time legend Pele condemning the statement.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid issued a statement regarding their stand against any form of a racist attack on the youngster.
Vinicius had taken to his Instagram handle to release a lengthy video declaring his resolve to fight all forms of racism. He also stated that he would not stop his dancing goal celebration.
Pedro Bravo later apologized for his comments, saying he had only used the word monkey as a metaphor to correct Vinicius jr, not abuse him racially.
The incident by the Atletico Madrid fans is not unconnected to the widespread criticism that followed Pedro Bravo’s criticism.
