LA Galaxy were locked in a 2-2 draw with Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer and had a glorious chance to secure a win in the 96th minute of the game.
Kansas City conceded a spot kick, and Chicharito was up to take it after scoring the two 2 goals that saw the game tied on a 2-2 draw.
In a surprise move, Chicharito picked his pace gallops towards the ball, went for a panenka, and fluffed it.
The Kansas City goalkeeper must have read his mind and did move left or right. He comfortably saved the spot kick without stress.
The worst part ot it was that Chicharito would have bagged his hat-trick in the game if he had scored the panenka.
Chicharito scored the opening goal and the equalizer for LA Galaxy, making him and hero for the team, but the last-minute fluff turned him into a villain among LA Galaxy fans.
After the miss, Chicharito said, ‘It is more of a mental thing. I dared it, but I am the cause for not taking the extra points.’
He was sorry for the mistake as he admits, ‘I caused my team to drop two valuable points. I accept the responsibility and have to keep working,’
Statistics have revealed that Chicharito has missed penalties more than any other player in the MLS since joining in 2020, and this was his fourth blunder.
