Frenkie De Jong Breaks Silence On Transfer Plans, Barcelona Exit (Details)

Frenkie De Jong has now finally broken his silence on the links to Manchester United during the summer transfer window, MySportDab reports.

The midfielder has also confirmed that Barcelona wanted to sell him despite his desire to remain at the club.

De Jong was Manchester United Coach Erik ten Hag’s number one target for last summer.

The Red Devils and Barcelona reached an agreement for a £63m fee to bring him to Old Trafford.

But the club failed to agree personal terms with the player as he was only focused on staying with the La Liga giants.

Barcelona wanted to use De Jong’s sale to ease their perilous financial situation.

Now, De Jong has finally addressed the transfer saga while on international duty with the Netherlands.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, De Jong said: ‘Chelsea and Man United offers? I decided back in May that I did not want to leave Barcelona. My decision did not change once during the summer.

‘I can’t say too much obviously,’ he added.

‘But look.. the club has different plans and I have my own plans too and sometimes this does not work together. But at the end of the day, things were sorted.’

United spent most of the summer trying to sign De Jong and ended up failing.

The young midfielder never indicated he wanted to join Manchester United and coach Erik Ten Hag started working on other options as the transfer window came to an end.

United later signed Christian Eriksen on a free transfer, and £70m for Casemiro from Real Madrid.
