Tottenham dominated the game as they did in the first leg of the encounter as they needed a win to guarantee them a place in the tightly-contested knockout round.
It was Marcus Edwards in the 22nd minute, who gave Sporting a surprise lead after a counter attack.
Edwards fired past Hugo Lloris to send the Portuguese side into the lead and boost their chances of making it to the next round of the competition.
Tottenham had to fight hard to get an equalizer as they waited till the 80th minute of play to equalize the game.
Tottenham lifted a corner kick into the box, and Bentacur headed home to equalise the game for the home side.
The game was still 1-1 in the 90th minute. Five minutes injury time was added.
Just at the end of the stoppage-time (90+5 minutes), England forward Harry Kane turned the game around with a goal to lift the team above the battle for the knockout position in the group.
However, after VAR analysis, the goal was ruled out, and the scoreline returned to the 1-1 draw.
Antonio Conte fumed with the decision, and the referee issued him a straight red card.
The result of the match means the battle for who makes it to the next round of the Champions League in the group will be taken to the last Matchday when the Premier League club travels to take on Marseille in France.
Despite the draw, Tottenham currently tops the Group with 8 points but is closely followed by Sporting and Frankfurt on 7 points, and Marseille bottom with 6 points.
As it stands, all the teams have a chance of qualifying from the group.
