Iker Casillas shocked many football fans when he took to his official Twitter handle to announce that he is gay.

The shock was not from a moral standpoint, but given the fact, the Ex-Real Madrid star was successfully married with children.

According to the Mirror, Casillas’s decision to announce himself as gay was a hoax designed to confuse the Spanish media due to rumors circulating about the legendary Real Madrid goalie.

Casillas has been a subject of media headlines in Spain, speculating that he is in a relationship with a former partner of Gerard Pique, Shakira.

Shakira and Gerard Pique have been in a relationship and had children.

The two top celebrities broke up after a series of misunderstandings which later resulted in the breakup

Iker Casillas was rumored to be dating Shakira, a partner of his former Spain teammate.

The news had come to him as a surprise prompting him to look for avenues to dispel the rumor and keep his reputation unsullied.

The Mirror reported that Casillas’s gay tweet was in sequence to the rumors and that the ex-Spain international did not meant it.

Just hours after dropping the gay tweet, Casillas has gone ahead to confirm that the tweet was a hoax by taking it down.

The former Spain international retired from football after suffering a cardiac arrest and has not been enmeshed in any public scandal throughout his professional football career.
