In a dramatic turn of events, Liverpool finally got a goal in the 76th minute, with Erling Haaland on the score sheet for the Reds.
The deadly Egyptian forward fired into the back of the net after an assist from Alisson to give the hosts a surprise lead.
Manchester City made frantic attempts to get an equaliser with few minutes remaining in the game, all to no avail.
The game ended Manchester City suffering their first defeat of the season in the hands of Liverpool.
