Cristiano Ronaldo walked off the pitch after Portugal’s 6-1 win against Switzerland on Tuesday night, MySportDab reports.
After the game, his team-mates continued to celebrate the massive win with their impressive performance.
However, The former Manchester United player just went to the dressing room after not starting the match.
Portugal played very well without him as they secured a 5-1 lead in his absence, and his replacement Goncalo Ramos scored a Hat-trick.
In a video viral now, Portuguese players are seen applauding their fans on the pitch after the win against Switzerland at the Lusail Stadium.
But Ronaldo did not join them as he slowly worked across the pitch towards the Portuguese tunnel.
The 37-year-old then left the pitch on his own and his team-mates did not join him as they continued their celebrations as a group.
Before the match, there were many talks that Ronaldo should be dropped for Portugal’s last 16 clash.
The Ballon winner recently became the first male player to score at five World Cup tournaments, with a penalty goal against Ghana.
He is also in Sofascore’s worst team of the group stage ratings, with an average rating of 6.37 in his three games.
However, some believe that there was some angry exchange of words between Ronaldo and Coach Santos after taking him off against South Korea.
Santos put him on the bench one day after saying he ‘didn’t like the player’s reaction to being taken off in the 2-1 loss.
Now, the coach said that Ronaldo was dropped only for tactical reasons rather than as punishment.
