Liverpool have now shocked Manchester United by agreeing to pay €50million (£44m) for PSV Eindhoven striker Cody Gakpo, MySportDab reports.
Talks between Liverpool and PSV started on Monday night as the Reds beat off competition from Manchester United.
United had started talks weeks ago but failed to submit a financial offer to PSV and now Liverpool have taken advantage.
On Twitter, PSV confirmed with an announcement that both clubs have reached an agreement.
In a statement on Twitter, PSV shared:
Manchester United were looking to sign players on loan instead of paying now as the Glazers will soon sell the club.
In the summer, Gakpo had offers from Leeds and Southampton but stayed at PSV instead.
The 23-year old wanted offers from clubs in the Champions League despite United’s Erik Ten Hag playing in the Europa League.
Liverpool have now signed Gakpo due to Luis Diaz’s injury and he even did a knee surgery while Darwin Nunez is yet to find his form.
PSV have made it clear they wanted around £45m for the Holland international.
Manchester United were favourites but the ongoing talk about a potential sale of the club has put everything behind.
