France lost 4-2 after penalties, failing in their bid to defend and win a third World Cup trophy, having won it two times.
Kylian Mbappe, as usual, did not fall off the bidding. He rose to the occasion and scored a hat-trick to drag the game to penalty shootouts.
He won the Golden Boot Award, beating Lionel Messi to emerge as the tournament’s highest goal-scorer.
Despite his brilliance and incredible showing against the Argentines, Kylian Mbappe missed out on a possible second consecutive World Cup trophy following the defeat to Argentina.
After the game, he remained silent for hours and was consoled by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Mbappe has finally broken his silence after the World Cup final loss. Taking to his social media handle, he shared a post with his golden boot award and wrote, ” we will return.”
The PSG forward has been tipped as one of the most promising youngsters to succeed the aging legends and icons of the game – Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
He was phenomenal for the French team throughout the competition, scoring five goals before the final and increasing the tally to eight in the final.
He is the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final since Geoff did it in 1966.
