Didier Deschamps has agreed to a contract extension with France to continue in his role as France national team coach, MySportDab reports.
Reports from the French Football Federation have confirmed Deschamps’ will remain as France national team coach till June 2026.
This means Didier Deschamps will lead the French national team to the 2026 World Cup, including Euros 2024.
Didier Deschamps also confirmed the contract extension during the French Football Federation’s General Assembly in Paris.
Speaking in the General Assembly, Deschamps said;
‘I obviously thank the president for his ongoing support and his continued confidence,’ Deschamps said, as per Le Parisien.
‘It’s something essential in the functioning of the French team.
‘I realised since my return the emotions and the passion that this World Cup had been able to generate.
There was a lot of passion and support.
‘We have two big games against the Netherlands and against Ireland in March, on the road to qualifying for Euro 2024 in Germany.
‘You can count on me, on all the staff to ensure that the French team remains at the highest international level.’
After leading France to the World Cup trophy in 2018, and reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the contract extension is not coming as a surprise.
He also led the team to the final of Euro 2016, and won the 2021 UEFA Nations League.
His contract extension has been pioneered by the President of French Football Association, Noel Le Graet.
Noel Le Graet appointed Didier Deschamps as head coach of France national team in 2012, and the 54-year-old has led the team to a series of successes throughout his 10 years reign at the club.
