Manchester City have demolished Aston Villa at Etihad in the Premier League as they push to defend the Premier League title, MySportDab reports.
First Half Report
After the referee set the game rolling, Manchester City dominated proceedings and pushed Aston Villa into their own half.
City hoped to return to winning ways after suffering a shock defeat to Tottenham in London.
Just four minutes into the game, Rodri planted a powerful header on Ryad Mahrez’s outswinger from the first corner kick of the game, heading the ball into the bottom-left corner to give City the lead.
Despite leading by a lone goal, City still pushed for another goal and pressed the visitors back into the box.
It was a subpar performance by the Unai Emery boys. They fell easily to the star-studded side and made no attempt at the City goal.
Manchester City continue to dominate proceedings and it was not long before they doubled the lead in the 39th-minute courtesy of IIkay Gundogan’s strike.
As the first half drew to a close, Aston Villa conceded a penalty in the 44th minute and Ryad Mahrez converted it to put the game beyond the visitors.
Aston Villa fell under the shadows of the Premier League giants. They had only 31% of the ball possession and failed to record a single shot on target throughout the first half.
Second Half Report
Manchester City were still on top of their game as the second half kicked off.
With a comfortable 3-0 lead, City continued to dominate the game, completing more passes in the opponents’ half, including touches inside the box.
Aston Villa began to make a solid attempt to compete in the game after the half-hour mark and Watkins put one back for the away side in the 61st minute.
The game finally ended with Manchester City holding onto their 3-1 lead to close the gap on the Premier League leaders Arsenal to three points.
