Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag said he had a huge relief after he dropped Cristiano Ronaldo from the Manchester United squad, MySportDab reports.

Cristiano Ronaldo who is currently plying his trade with Al -Nassr in Saudi Arabia had a series of run-ins with Erik Ten Hag during his spell at Old Trafford.

In his first Premier League game against Brighton, Erik Ten Hag dropped Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench and later subbed in the Ballon d’Or winner in the second half but United ended up losing by two unreplied goals.

Erik Ten Hag started Cristiano Ronaldo in the second Premier League match against Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium and suffered a second thumping defeat, losing, 4-0.

In his third Premier League game against Liverpool, Erik Ten Hag axed Cristiano Ronaldo from the starting lineup and secured a season-defining victory over Liverpool

After the Liverpool win, Cristiano Ronaldo lost his starting berth at the club and was reduced to cameo appearances off the bench.

Erik Ten Hag gave the nod to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the attacking lineup instead of the former Real Madrid forward.

Ten Hag’s decision to bench Ronaldo led to a series of on-pitch and off-pitch bust-ups that climaxed in Ronaldo’s bombshell interview, slamming the manager for disrespecting him.

After the interview, Ronaldo’s Manchester United was terminated and he joined Al-Nassr as a free agent.

Re-examining the decision to leave Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench and finally having him leave the club, Erik Ten Hag said he was relieved to drop Ronaldo from the squad.

According to him, it was a difficult decision but he had to examine the short-term and long-term impact of the decision.

‘I do consider big decisions (dropping Ronaldo’) like that, definitely. I have to look at the impact they make, not only in the short term but also for the longer term. But I did not worry. I sleep well also in those nights.”

Erik Ten Hag Hag has recorded a series of successes at Old Trafford after taking the bold stay drop Ronaldo and asked for his contract to be ended after his Piers Morgan.

He ended Manchester United’s six-year trophy drought with the Carabao Cup and has kept the team in the Europa League, FA Cup, and a strong position in the Premier League.
