Erik Ten Hag has confirmed his decision on Alejandro Garnacho’s bid to feature for Argentina in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina next month, MySportDab reports.
The Manchester United youngster who has been on the sidelines after picking an ankle injury in Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Southampton before the international break, is set to return to the team.
Garnacho was included in Argentina’s international friendly squad for a double header clash against Curacao and Panama but was ruled out of the team due to injury.
However, he has been making speedy recovery and is ready to return to Red Devils’ squad after the injury blow.
Meanwhile, Manchester United and Argentina U-20 national team coach Pablo Zabaleta have been at loggerheads over the decision to allow Alejandro play for Argentina in the U-20 World Cup which comes up next month.
Manchester United have crucial Premier League games in the Premier League as the season draws to a close and will want Alejandro Garnacho back to the squad.
Zabaleta, on the other hand, is hoping to have the youngster for the Argentina U-20 national team during the World Cup tournament which will be hosted by Argentina.
Zabaleta have reportedly met with Manchester United officials to ask for the release of Alejandro Garnacho.
Garnacho himself is eager to play for his country at the tournament but the club have remained belligerent on their stand.
When asked whether he will allow Alejandro Garnacho to join the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Erik Ten Hag replied;
“No, we will not allow him to leave.”
Hours after confirming the youngster will not be released for the tournament, Alejandro Garnacho signed a new long term contract that will see him stay at the Old Trafford club until 2028.
Erik Ten Hag’s decision means Alejandro Garnacho will be available for the remaining Manchester United games in the season, including the FA Cup final clash against Manchester City on June 3.
