Barcelona have suffered a shocked Laliga defeat to Rayo Vallecano to miss out on a chance to extend lead on the LaLiga top, MySportDab reports.
First Half Report
Barcelona dominated proceedings as the first half began as they looked to build on Real Madrid’s slump to Girona on Tuesday.
The Catalans took charge of proceedings but were vulnerable to counter attacks by Rayo Vallecano.
Against the run of play, Garcia gave Rayo Vallecano a surprise lead in the 19th minute to set the home side enroute to a surprise home win.
After conceding the first goal, Barcelona ramped up attempts to net the equaliser but met the brink wall defense of the hosts.
Rayo Vallecano retreated to their half as the Catalans continued to mount pressure all to no avail.
The first half ended with Vallecano winning by a lone goal after putting up a strong defense line to counter attempts by Barcelona.
Second Half Report
Barcelona held sway over the game as the second half kicked off as they increased pressure to find an equaliser.
Rayo Vallecano held on to the narrow 1-0 lead and depended on counter attack to offset Barcelona’s defense line.
In the 53rd minute, Garcia hit his second goal to bag his brace as Rayo Vallecano doubled the lead to compound Barcelona’ woes.
Barcelona made failed attempts to hit a consolation goal as the home side held off the pressure to maintain the two-goal lead with few minutes remaining into the game.
Barcelona finally put one back in the 83rd minute with Robert Lewandwoski scoring for the Catalans to make it 2-1.
It was a fight to death for Rayo Vallecano after Lewandwoski’s goal which put the Catalans close to sharing spoils with the home side.
The match ended with Rayo Vallecano grabbing a 2-1 win to deny Barcelona a chance to go extend lead to 14 points on La Liga top.
