Manchester United Defender Lisandro Martinez has now successful completed surgery on his broken metatarsal, MySportDab reports.

The Argentine fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during United’s Europa League draw against Sevilla.

He is now ruled out for the rest of the season as it requires at least six to eight weeks for the injury to heal completely.

Martinez has been one of United’s best players so far this season since he signed from Ajax, and also got nominated for the Premier League team of the season.

United also have to deal with his absence and that of Raphael Varane.

On Instagram, Martinez wrote:

‘Not the way I imagined this season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles that we must overcome to be stronger. I’ll be back very soon to help the team.

‘I’ll continue to support my team-mates to achieve our goals.

‘The messages and support I’ve received has been amazing. Many, many thanks to you all.’

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are now United’s starting centre backs but the club is looking at signing a new defender for the summer.

Monaco’s Axel Disasi and Napoli’s Kim Min-Jae have both been linked with the Red Devils as they plan to sell Eric Bailly, currently on loan at Marseille.

Kim Min-Jae is rated as the one of the best defenders in Europe right now and he has a £40m clause active during the summer.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle have also shown interest in the 26-year old South Korean and have started talks with his representatives.

However, Paris St Germain also want to sign him to play with Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan next season.
