Manchester United fans have reacted furiously as the Glazers’ extra ’10-year ownership plot’ emerges, MySportDab reports.
The beleaguered owners of the Old Trafford club put Manchester United up for sale but the sale process has been teetering back and forth.
Manchester United fans have been the driving force pushing for the exit of the Glazers after 18-years of ownership that has left the club in ruins.
After seething pressure and boiling tensions marked with protests and boycotts by the fans, the Glazers opted to sell the club.
However, the sale process has been dragging despite interest by top investors interested in taking over the club.
According to reports, the Glazers are interested in total sale of Manchester United but none of the offers made so far have met their £6bn sale price.
Hence, the process has been dragging with deadlines set and bypassed while more bidders are expected to join the bidding race.
Now, Manchester United sale process have taken a shock twist as a plot by the Glazers to stay in control for more years have been unraveled.
According to ESPN, the Glazers are planning to stay for extra “10 years” which will take their reign at the club to 28 years.
The report by ESPN has sparked outrage among Man United fans who are pressing harder for the Glazers to exit the club.
A fan wrote, “The Glazers should brace for more protest if they dare to truncate the sale process and stay longer at the club.”
Another wrote, “This is an important moment in the history of Manchester United. We need full sale only.”
Another fan added, “The Glazers have plunged Manchester United to heavy debt. It is a high time they have to go.”
Leading the race to take over Manchester United are Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Both have submitted first and second bids for the club, but United are calling for a third bid as the offers made so far are yet to meet the club’s demand.
It is still unclear whether the apparent drag in the takeover process could be as a result of this plan to extend ownership by the Glazers.
