Inter Miami have announced the signing of Lionel Messi, MySportDab reports.
The Florida-based MLS franchise took to their social media handle to officially announce the signing of the Barcelona legend.
The few minutes video, available at the end of this page, featured Lionel Messi donning Inter Miami’s shirt as the footie icon prepares for a fresh chapter in his legendary career.
Messi joined Inter Miami as a free agent from PSG – a move that has been seen as one of the most shocking transfers so far this summer.
Barcelona wanted Lionel Messi back to the club but faced hurdles trying to scale through their tight financial situation to bring back the player.
Messi made a reference to Barcelona’s interest in signing him, confirming the club had interest in bring him back to Camp Nou but faced the same challenge that made him leave in the first place.
Messi noted Barcelona wanted to sell more players for them to be able to bring him in but he did not want that to happen.
Also, Messi talked about the lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia which came from Al Hilal but said his next career destination was not to be determined by money.
In a shock decision, Messi confirmed he will join Inter Miami because he wants a different lifestyle devoid of pressure while playing his football and he believed a move to Inter Miami in the MLS will afford him that.
Lionel Messi is joining Inter Miami on a two-and-a-half year contract with an estimated annual salary of $47million.
As part of his contract with the club, he has bagged a lifetime deal with Adidas to earn a percentage of all his Inter Miami shirts sold by Adidas throughout his lifetime.
Also, Messi will earn a percentage from Apple TV’s broadcast of all MLS matches.
He will make his debut for the club on July 21 against Cruz Azul and will hope to help the club return winning ways after 13 matches winless streak.
