Chelsea have confirmed update on the injury situation of Carney Chukwuemeka, MySportDab reports.

Carney Chukwuemeka scored his first Chelsea goal since joining the club last summer from Aston Villa but it was a mixed fortune for the youngster against West Ham.

The former Aston Villa star picked up a knee issue and was subbed off prematurely due to the problem.

Now, Chelsea have confirmed Carney Chukwuemeka will likely be out for some weeks following the injury.

A club statement on the injury situation reveals Carney Chukwuemeka has undergone surgery due to the knee issue and is set to undergo rehabilitation.

“Carney Chukwuemeka sustained an injury to his left knee during our game against West Ham United on Sunday

“Last night Carney underwent surgery and will now begin his recovery.

The 19-year-old will work with the club’s medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham,” club statement reads.

The club have not revealed when Carney Chukwuemeka will be back but Skysport reports it could take up to six weeks.

Chukwuemeka joins a long list of Chelsea’s piling injury list featuring the likes of Christopher Nkunku, who is set to be on the sidelines for months.

Also on the club’s injury list is Armando Broja, who is nearing his full recovery after picking up an injury since last season.

Marcus Bettinelli, Westley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile are also on the injury list and are yet to recover.

Chelsea suffered defeat against 10-man West Ham and are winless in their first two matches this season.

They will hope to secure all three points when taking on new-ly promoted Luton in their next game.
